Content:
The research in the project aims to analyze potential causes for accidents and traffic risks in situations between right-turning trucks and bicycles which drive straight ahead.
Therefore, the project investigates infrastructural and vehicle-related approaches based on macro- and microscopical accident analysis in Berlin, Magdeburg, Münster and Darmstadt. Additionally, existing scientific knowledge and the results of a conducted experiment in a truck simulator are combined to derive suggestions and measures about how to reduce the risk of accidents in such situations.
The project wants to make reliable and valid statements about the benefit of different approaches and methods of structural and operational measures on intersections, and rate the safety benefit of vehicle-related approaches like turning assistance systems.
