History of the Chair of HMS

In 1993, the Chair of Human-Machine Systems was founded under Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil K.-P. Timpe at the Institute of Ergonomics.
The preparatory work took several years. Professors such as Eyferth, Fricke, Upmeyer, Willumeit, Wilpert developed a research as well as teaching profile. The goal was to combine and refine the theoretical and methodical basics of design, assessment, and analysis of human-machine systems in collaboration with other with relevant departments under consideration of the interdisciplinarity of the matter. The necessity to expand the current activities was justified with the development and application of new technologies especially in the area of traffic and production (information and knowledge processing).
The content of the current work at the Chair of Human-Machine Systems is closely connected to the Center of Human-Machine Systems.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Rötting took over the Chair of Human-Machine Systems on April 1st 2005.
